Living for Beginners at Körnerplatz

Hanover / 2016

1st Prize Competition for Realisation

Gesellschaft für Bauen und Wohnen GBH is planning the construction of a residential building for students and apprentices with an integrated day care centre for children on the ground floor on Körnerplatz in the centre of Hanover. This new building developed on a subway line forms a triangle with the red brick buildings of the former print shop König & Ebhardt and the late Gothic Church “Christuskirche” by C. W. Hase. The structure of this new building follows the height of the surrounding development. The roof terrace on the 3rd floor with a view of the church will offer a generous free space for a communicative meeting point for the residents. The tree population worthy of protection will provide shade for the child care centre on the ground floor. The noise of the traffic will be dimmed by appropriate construction measures, hence creating a free protected area the group rooms will open towards.
